Singapore under shelter in place order
As we, in the California, enter the fourth week of shelter
in place order by Governor Gavin Newsom, Singapore has just been given a
similar order by their Prime Minister. They just entered their week one.
Everyone went into panic buying mode over the weekend for essentials.
Singaporeans have lived in a safe environment all their lives, free from even
natural disasters. They are not used to stocking up supplies for emergencies.
With shelter in place order, comes social distancing
measures. So far, 7,000 written warnings have been issued by Tuesday April 7.
Starting April 8, after the first warning, subsequent offenses of shelter in
place or social distancing orders will result in fines. First time offenders
can be fined up to S$10,000 or imprisoned up to six months, or both. Stay home!
